Ferrari F8 Tributo & Twin-Turbo Audi R8 No Match For Tesla Model S Plaid.

A YouTube video shows the Tesla Model S Plaid beating a Ferrari F8 Tributo and a modified twin-turbo Audi R8 V10 over a quarter-mile drag race.

A YouTube video published by a Tesla Model S Plaid owner shows the EV beating a Ferrari F8 Tributo and a modified twin-turbo Audi R8 V10 over a quarter-mile drag race. Tesla is the world’s leading EV manufacturer, and the Model S Plaid is the company’s flagship car. It is a luxury sedan that may look like an innocuous family car on the outside without any of the design flair of fancied Italian sports cars or American muscle cars, but it is known to be a speed demon in a straight line.

Last year, the car broke the quarter-mile world record set by a Bugatti Chiron when comedian and late night talk show host Jay Leno covered the distance in just 9.247 seconds in a Model S Plaid. The car then broke its own record last November, doing a quarter-mile run in barely 8.944 seconds at the Maryland International Raceway. The Plaid had also earlier raced against and beat a number of other fancied cars, including the Lamborghini Hurracan, Porsche 911 Turbo, Shelby GT500, and more.

The video uploaded to YouTube by Tesla Plaid Channel chronicles four drag races that took place on May 5 at the Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida. Given the Model S Plaid’s earlier exploits, it was probably a given that it would beat all other supercars easily in a drag race. The Ferrari F8 Tributo is powered by a 3.9L twin-turbo V8 engine and kicks out a jaw-dropping 710 hp at 7,000 rpm and 568 lb ft of torque at 3,250 rpm. However, the Model S Plaid simply sped past the Ferrari despite letting it have the move. The Audi R8 V10 also suffered the same fate as the Tesla left it far behind and cruised to a victory over the quarter-mile distance. The Model S Plaid produces a maximum of 1,020 hp and has a maximum speed of 200 mph. It is also said to hit 60 mph from a standstill in less than two seconds, making it the fastest accelerating production vehicle ever made.

Alongside the German and Italian sports cars, the Tesla also faced competition from an unexpected quarter – a gutted hillclimb Model S Plaid that was race-modified to run at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race in Colorado. Like any rally car, it was also reinforced with a roll-cage and had all its non-essential interior creature comforts stripped out to make it lighter and faster. However, the car only finished the quarter-mile course in 9.71 seconds, way behind the unmodified Tesla Model S Plaid.

It is unlikely that the Model S Plaid would have fared as well against any of the sports cars in a twisty racing circuit with elaborate corners and chicanes, but that’s not what the car has been built for anyways. It is meant to do one thing and one thing alone – be insanely fast in a straight line, and that is something it does plenty well. Given its brute power and record-breaking acceleration, it is unlikely that a road-legal internal combustion vehicle will be able to topple the Tesla Model S Plaid from its peak any time soon.
