Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., sat down with The Associated Press on Wednesday for an exclusive interview. Among the many topics covered, the former Speaker addressed the Supreme Court taking up women’s access the abortion pill mifepristone. Shortly after that interview, the Supreme Court temporarily extended women’s access to an abortion pill until Friday. The justices are still considering whether to allow restrictions on mifepristone to take effect while a legal challenge to the medication’s FDA approval continues. In an order signed by Justice Samuel Alito on Wednesday, the court indicated it will act by Friday night. “But if the court should decide that it has superior scientific knowledge without any benefit of research or trials and the rest, we have a real problem in our country. And the answer, of course, is the Congress of the United States. We must win in the next election to lock in certain things in the law so that the Supreme Court does not think that it has scientific, religious, academic or whatever it is, superiority,” Pelosi said.
