Friends Star Almost Beat Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron To Become Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Titanic Co-Star Instead Of Kate Winslet – FandomWire appeared on fandomwire.com by FandomWire.

Titanic was one of the biggest masterpieces of all time, and no amount of arguments can change that. A beautiful romance cum disastrous melodrama based on true historic events, director James Cameron left absolutely no stone unturned in portraying the movie in the best possible way. With the perfect casting on the hopelessly romantic tale, everything in the movie was undoubtedly flawless.

But there was a time when the Titanic cast was super close to not being the perfect one that it ended up being. Meaning, there was a time when the iconic role of the female protagonist Rose almost went to Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, and even Friends star Jennifer Aniston before Kate Winslet was finally selected for the part!

While no one could’ve played the parts of Rose and Jack in Titanic better than Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, director James Cameron wasn’t of the same thought. Before confirming the pair for the roles, the filmmaker spent a pretty long time choosing the best candidates for portraying the characters.

One such choice included Jennifer Aniston. Following the tremendous fame and acclamation she gained with her superhit sitcom Friends, the Rachel Green portrayer was also considered for the part of Rose. However, due to some unspecified reasons, this consideration was soon dropped.

But here comes the surprising part – Winslet was still not Cameron’s choice for Rose! Instead, the role was then offered to Gwyneth Paltrow, who was the heroine hotshot of the time. However, the Iron Man actress too ended up turning the offer down due to her own reasons.

The list didn’t stop here either. Several actresses were considered and offered the role of the female protagonist including Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Uma Thurman, and Winona Ryder. In fact, even Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie went to audition for the roles! But the formers somewhy turned the offer down, and the latter weren’t considered good enough because their position in Hollywood wasn’t much renowned at the time.

After going through so many options and getting either turned down or not finding the actress good enough for the role, James Cameron was left with little to no options. That’s when Kate Winslet came into the picture. After reading the script of Titanic and weeping a flood of tears, the then 19-year-old super-determined star somehow managed to get the director’s phone number and called him up to convince him to cast her in the movie, claiming he’d be ‘really mad’ if he didn’t.

Not stopping there, she adamantly also went on to convince Leonardo DiCaprio to accept the role of Jack while it was being offered to him, claiming the reason behind her doing so was because he was ‘f–king brilliant’.  Just like that, the passionate Winslet bagged the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater, and DiCaprio ended up playing Jack Dawson – the perfect pair to ever be cast in the history of casting making the perfect movie in the history of entertainment.
