Gabriel Menino, the Brazilian who followed Cristiano Ronaldo's diet and thought he was going to die appeared on www.marca.com by EFE,Adapted by SAM.
Brazilian Gabriel Menino, a Palmeiras player, is the subject of discussion in Portugal for having tried the diet followed by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, but when he went out on the pitch, he thought he was going to die.
Speaking to local media outlet ‘Palmeiras Cast’ and widely reported in the Portuguese press, Menino recalled that he wanted to try Cristiano‘s diet in order to regain his fitness with Sao Paulo.
Menino, a 22-year-old midfielder, said he wanted to look the same as Cristiano Ronaldo, because in 2020-2021 he was the third option for his coach, Portugal’s Abel Ferreira.
So, he started with the diet: an egg and supplements for breakfast, again supplements before training, in the afternoon and before going to bed, grilled fish or meat and salad for lunch and dinner, according to the footballer.
The next day he was called up for the match and immediately felt the effects.
“I was warming up and all I could think was ‘I’m going to die’. Five minutes into the game I couldn’t run any more, I needed to be substituted,” he explained.
Fortunately for the player, one of his team-mates was being treated by doctors, so he took advantage of the stoppage to take an isotonic drink and apply a cooling gel.
Menino is currently a starter for Palmeiras, with whom he has won two Copa Libertadores and a Brazilian championship, among other trophies.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, who plays for Saudi club Al Nassr, is a fervent advocate of a healthy diet and lifestyle, and has even publicly expressed his distaste for sugary drinks.
During Euro 2020 with the Portugal national team, he removed a bottle of ‘Coca-Cola’ from the press conference table and said “Water!”, a gesture that quickly went viral.
