Gary Lineker shares Elton John apology after Leicester City’s win vs Watford appeared on www.leicestermercury.co.uk by Leicestershire Live.

Former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker has revealed an apology he has received from Elton John, two months after City’s win over Watford.

Enzo Maresca’s men came out as 2-0 winners over the Hornets back in November with Jamie Vardy scoring a brace. The second goal came from the penalty spot after Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was shown a red card for a foul on the City striker.

John is a former chairman of Watford and remains a fan of the club. It seems that he now had a private bet with Lineker over the result, with the singer-songwriter sending over the money he owed.

Posting on his social media channels, Lineker has shared a picture of a letter sent by Elton John along with a £10 note. It read “Dear Gary, sorry this is late! With Christmas, we were left a little short!

“Have a great new year. It was so great to see you! Thank you, Love Elton.”

Along with the picture, Lineker wrote. “Never let it be said that @eltonofficial doesn’t pay his debts. Leicester 2 Watford 0.”

The win over Watford was the first of City’s current 10-match unbeaten run in the Championship. The game saw them bounce back from two consecutive 1-0 defeats against Leeds and Middlesbrough earlier in November.

City have since been able to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points, with the side having a 13-point gap to third place. They are back in Championship action in 11 days when they have the short journey down the M69 to take on rivals Coventry City at the CBS Arena.

But they first have FA Cup matters to deal with. City travel to the New Den to take on Millwall in the third round of the competition on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off).
