PG and E operated energy storage facility in Moss Landing is officially open today. The utility and Tesla celebrating getting this project across the finish line. Action news reporter Ariana Hasso is live in Moss Landing with *** closer look. Ari Yeah Aaron. The Tesla battery pack has been operating since early april of this year. But today PGD held an official ribbon cutting celebrating their part in *** cleaner future and our efforts to decarbonization economy by showing that battery storage can cost effectively replace fossil fuel generation Patty says it better than me and has the numbers. But you can really see it here with this project. The Alcorn battery system. It’s one of the largest battery energy storage systems in the world. What this does is captures that solar during the day and then as the sun starts setting, it releases it. Without that we’d have to have combined cycle gas fired carbon producing generators that would have to ramp up and pick it up. It is modern technology deployable today. So this is not *** research project. This is real clean energy deploying to the grid every day as we speak. The project is 182 megawatts and is adjacent to the 300 Veenstra megawatt power plant which makes Moss landing the energy storage capital of the world. PG and E. Ceo patty poppy spoke passionately on monday about the finished project is under the shadow of this smoke stacks of an old fossil plant. We’re bringing the future of energy like the visual is pretty incredible that we’ve got this Tesla power pack here delivering today right in the shadow of these sticks and says it’s helping to change the world for the better for the future generations to come. We’re making the future that our grandchildren and our grandchildren’s Children can be proud of And and they maybe they won’t even know because we’ll have made it so seamless for them to put its power capacity into perspective. It can power hundreds of thousands of customers at once for hours. Okay, let’s use the Monterey numbers on the average customer. And this project will pick up about 250,000 customers for four hours. But both P. Jeannie and Tesla emphasize there’s still work to be done for *** cleaner future. The project manager also tells me that this power plant should be able to operate at 100% for about 20 years, reporting in Moss Landing. Ariana Hasso KCPW Action News eight Yeah.
