Gunpoint robbery suspect found eating victim’s fried chicken at crime scene appeared on www.dailystar.co.uk by Dailystar.co.uk.
A man is facing up to 21 years behind bars after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint and staying at the crime scene to eat his victim’s fried chicken.
James Taylor, from Chicago, was arrested for robbery in South Calumet at around 1.30pm on February 11, the Chicago Police department said.
He is accused of robbing a 35-year-old man in front of his home.
Officers said they arrived at the scene within minutes, only to find that Taylor hadn’t fled, but was still there enjoying stolen fried chicken he’d taken from his victim, CWBChicago reports.
The victim had been carrying his freshly purchased chicken towards his home when Taylor allegedly approached him and asked him for a light, according to prosecutor Kenneth Flesch.
The prosecutor alleged that when the victim said no and continued walking, Taylor tapped him on the shoulder and pointed a pistol in his face as he turned around, forcing him to hand over his keys, $2 in cash, a debit card, and the fried chicken.
Flesch said that Taylor then climbed into his victim’s car and began eating the chicken while the victim called 911, who arrived shortly after and arrested Taylor.
In a statement, Chicago Police Department said: “The above offender was arrested by the Chicago Police Department on February 11, 2023, in the 4500 block of S. Calumet Ave, at approximately 1:30 a.m.
“He was positively identified as the offenders who, moments earlier, robbed a 35-year-old male at gunpoint in the 4500 block of S. Calumet Ave. (2nd District) The offender was placed into custody and charged accordingly.”
Taylor has been charged with a series of felonies, including armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and illegal possession of a debit card.
He is being held on a $150,000 bond in Cook County Jail as he awaits a court appearance on March 9, an inmate record indicates.
Taylor has no criminal background but if convicted he could be handed 21 years in prison unless he takes a plea deal for a reduced sentence.
