Acclaimed author Joyce Carol Oates will speak about her life and her writings on Nov. 18 in Jupiter.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in collaboration with the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University will present, The Art and Craft of Her Writing: A Conversation with Joyce Carol Oates, at 4 p.m. in the OLLI complex at FAUs John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive.

Moderated by Rachel Luria, associate dean of student affairs and associate professor of rhetoric and composition in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at FAU, this one-time discussion will explore the life and writings of Oates. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Oates has penned bestselling novels, critically acclaimed collections of short fiction, as well as essays, plays, poetry, and a memoir.

In 2010, former U.S. President Barack Obama awarded Oates the National Humanities Medal. Best known for her fiction, Oates novels include them, which won the National Book Award; Blonde, a reimagining of the inner life of Marilyn Monroe; The Falls, which won the Frances Prix Femina; and We Were the Mulvaneys,which follows the disintegration of an American family. This book became a bestseller after being selected by Oprah�s Book Club.

The city of Palm Beach Gardens presents its Community Concert Series, sponsored by BallenIsles Charities Foundation and Frenchman�s Creek Charities Foundation Inc.

The concerts will take place at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Plaza Amphitheater, 10500 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens.

Saturday, Nov. 19  Turnstiles: The Ultimate Tribute to the Music of Billy Joel.

 

 

Saturday, Dec. 3 Petty/Nicks: Tribute Band to Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks.

Saturday, Feb. 4 The Long Run: Americas Favorite Tribute to the Eagles.

The Community Concert Series is free to the public. Limited seating will be provided or bring your own chair, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Please leave your pets at home.
