Memorial Auditorium hosts tribute to music of James Taylor and Carly Simon on Saturday, April 1

The Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center is honoring two music legends.

They’ll be hosting “How Sweet It Is: The Music of James Taylor & Carly Simon” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 1.

It will be an opportunity for a trip down memory lane.

“It’s a wonderful show and it’s just this relaxing music that seeps into you. Many of those songs are a part of so many people’s memories,” said Tammy Makram, the executive director of the Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center in Worthington, MN.

The show features Twin Cities musicians with Dennis Curley as the voice of James Taylor and Dorian Chalmers singing Carly Simon.

The band performed a number of years ago at the art center and people have been clamoring for them to return to the Worthington stage ever since.

“Dennis Curly and Dorian Chalmers performed here in 2018 or 2019 with their tribute to the music of John Denver show. It was so good. Not only are they fantastic performers, but they are a really personable group that connect with the audience,” Makram said. “We got so many requests to bring them back and then the pandemic hit. It’s taken a little while to bring them back but they have a new show that we are so excited to see.”

The entire ensemble are great musicians that Makram can’t wait to listen to again.

“I really love both Dennis and Dorian. They have incredible voices and I’m really looking forward to hearing them sing,” Makram said.

And while she loves their voices, it’s actually their stories that Makram is most excited to hear.

“I really enjoy the time between the songs where they tell interesting stories about the performers and what they are performing. I love music trivia and learning things about performers and musicians that I love that I didn’t know,” Makram said. “It’s just one of the things that makes the entire show really interesting and enjoyable to watch.”
