How to Clean Oculus (Meta) Quest 2 Lenses
The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, now officially called the Meta Quest 2, is a great option for those looking to get into the world of virtual reality gaming. While there are other headsets, like the PlayStation VR, the Oculus Quest 2 has the advantage of having no wires, allowing players the chance to experience the top VR games, like Beat Saber and Superhot, without needing a television or PC.
But like any piece of expensive tech like a VR headset, owners need to make sure they’re taking proper care of all of its parts. Playing on the Oculus Quest 2, even for a few minutes, can make people sweat a little, especially when playing an intense game, like a VR workout title. It’s important to ensure that the Oculus Quest VR headset lenses are kept nice and clean, and this guide will go over the best way to do just that.
How to Clean Oculus Quest Lenses
The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset has a pair of lenses that can be shifted left and right to make visuals as clear as possible for users. When people touch the lenses with their fingers, this can cause fingerprints and smudges. Dust can also build up on and near the lenses, too, especially when the headset hasn’t been used in a while.
According to Oculus Support, the best way to clean the headset’s lenses is to use a dry optical lens micro-fiber cloth and wipe it starting at the center and then use a circular motion moving outwards. Users can also try anti-bacterial wipes to clean the lenses, but they need to be non-abrasive. Abrasive wipes or cloths can damage the lenses, which is not good for having a clear screen for playing in VR.
Some Oculus Quest owners also use air dusters to blow off debris near the lenses, such as hair or dirt. These can be found online at storefronts like Amazon, and are usually called compressed air dusters or tech air dusters.
Do not get any alcohol or any cleaning liquids on the lenses themselves, as that can cause issues for the headset.
Oculus Quest owners should also ensure that their entire headset gets cleaned off every once in a while to prevent dirt build-up, and using a dry cloth is the best way to do that. Basically, the headset needs to be carefully cleaned without abrasive cleaning solutions to stay in good shape.
