VR gaming might have a lot of great games, but what it doesn’t have many of are “killer apps”, games that really sell the headset in question. This is particularly true for PlayStation VR2, as while games like Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners are fun experiences, they’re either lacking a little something or are just a bit too short. In the search for a system seller, will we be seeing Half-Life: Alyx make its way over to PSVR2?

For those with the huge amounts of money spare for a Valve Index, it’s hard to beat Half-Life: Alyx in terms of sheer immersion, though even just using a less powerful headset on PC still showcases just how good Alyx is. Lauded as one of the most essential VR games out there and a return to form for Valve after years of live service, Half-Life: Alyx would no doubt be a huge statement for Sony if they could work out a deal with Valve to port it over to the PlayStation VR 2.

If you’re itching to jump into the virtual reality shoes of Alyx Vance, here’s all of the info you need on Half-Life: Alyx potentially coming to PSVR2.

Half-Life: Alyx PSVR2 Release Date

Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly considering how Valve work, a PSVR2 port for Half-Life: Alyx hasn’t been confirmed, or even really discussed by either Sony or Valve.

Valve haven’t really touched the console market in many years, as, well, they don’t need to. Steam is the most popular gaming platform on the planet, and the last Valve game that came to consoles was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, which has long been abandoned.

However, Valve and Sony do seem to have a bit of a working relationship, as PlayStation games are finally starting to be ported over to Steam. While Gabe Newell does seem to prefer Xbox, it’s not out of the question that he and the rest of Valve would recognise what a good opportunity it’d be to get a newer generation interested in Half-Life on console, especially with the eye tracking and haptic capabilities of the PSVR2 to play around with.

About Half-Life: Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx marked the first true outing for the Half-Life franchise since Half-Life 2: Episode Two in 2007 when it released in March 2020 exclusively for Steam.

Following the titular Alyx Vance, Half-Life: Alyx is set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 and is intended to provide more backstory on Alyx and how exactly the Combine took over Earth while Gordon Freeman was having a big nap.

Leading the resistance along with her father, Eli, Alyx must build tools to push back the Combine and learn more about this fearsome enemy, including how to step them.

Half-Life: Alyx was widely praised at launch for its incredibleattention to detail, including never before seen amounts of environmental interaction and immersive sim elements that helped it to become one of 2020’s best games. Alyx has solidified a strong community thanks to its baked-in modding tools and has shifted millions of copies, but they could sell ever more with a port to PSVR2.
