With the upcoming Modern Warfare title later this year, fans are intrigued to know if Modern Warfare 3 will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One. So, here’s everything you need to know about if MW3 will arrive on last-gen consoles.
Activision have officially announced Modern Warfare 3 will be the next Call of Duty installment launching on November 10, 2023, and will follow 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 story.
Given the huge expectations the game has brought, a lot of rumors surrounding the game have been flying around, including the return of the Ninja perk and classic mini-map, a grand array of weapons, the new Carry Forward system, and more.

But with every year that passes, some platforms start to get older, and players start to get worried to learn if they’ll still have the capacity to play the latest CoD release.
Will Modern Warfare 3 be on PS4 & Xbox One?
It hasn’t been officially confirmed whether Modern Warfare 3 will be available on Xbox and PS4. However, the presence of rating listings and trailers could provide some reassurance to players concerned about the game not being released on their chosen platform.
On August 10, Xbox published Modern Warfare 3’s rating listing, providing players a first look at which Microsoft platforms the game might be available on at launch.

Almost immediately, several players noted that the only Xbox platforms listed in it were the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with no sign of Xbox One. And as expected, many quickly began to speculate that the game might not make it to Xbox’s last-gen console.

However, in PlayStation‘s case, looks like PS4 gamers might be safe. With the release of Makarov’s return trailer, PlayStation shared in its title that MW3 would be available for both “PS5 & PS4,” setting aside speculation that Sony‘s last-gen platform won’t receive the game.

In response to this situation, certain players pointed out that, while it appears the game will most likely be accessible on PS4 and PS5 as indicated by Sony, there have been games “that were available on PS4 but not on Xbox One,” which wasn’t well received by Xbox One fans.
Modern Warfare 3 is developed by Sledgehammer Games.
For historical reference, Call of Duty has “abandoned” earlier console generations in order to focus on new powerful consoles. For example, 2015’s Black Ops 3 was the last game to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Bear in mind that this is only speculation and nothing has been confirmed at the moment. It’s expected that Activision could reveal official details about MW3’s platform availability after MW3’s worldwide reveal inside Warzone on August 17, 2023.
