Jewish Org Says Kanye West‘s Latest IG Post Doesn’t Erase Antisemitism appeared on thenerdstash.com by The Nerd Stash.
Days after Kanye West shared his dignified Instagram post about liking Jewish people again, thanks to a Jonah Hill movie, the Jewish community aired their thoughts on his supposed repentance. The actor took to social media over the weekend to share the cover of the Jonah Hill movie, 21 Jump Street, along with a cryptic message suggesting his willingness to make peace with the Jewish people and condemn antisemitism.
Kanye West’s Redemption Requires More Than An Instagram Post After Past Antisemitism
Prominent Jewish organizations like the American Jewish Committee and the watchdog group StopAntisemitism have since responded. Speaking to TMZ, the organization clarified that Kanye West could not vindicate himself and past antisemitism with a simple Instagram joke about liking Jonah after seeing his old movie. According to them, they hoped to see more than a post from Kanye to certain his sincerity. The groups also revealed their willingness to meet with the hip-hop mogul to discuss further steps in his redemption process. StopAntisemitism’s executive director Liora Rez divulged:
“Joking about a movie with Jonah Hill is not the apology that the Jewish people deserve from Kanye, particularly when his antisemitic tirades continue to have a dangerous trickle-down effect of hatred against Jews.”
Going further, Liora, whose group named Kanye the Antisemite of the year 2022, noted that forgiveness was a major Jewish value. Hence, the rapper still had a chance to vindicate himself and earn forgiveness from the Jewish community. But first, he had to denounce white supremacist Nick Fuentes.
The American Jewish Committee had similar thoughts. A spokesperson for the group, Richard Hirschhaut said Kanye West still had lots of explanations to tender beyond liking a Jonah Hill movie, saying:
“It is a little odd that all it might take for Kanye to renounce his vile antisemitism is to watch an 11-year-old Jonah hill movie. Whether Kanye is sincere, only he knows.”
Notwithstanding, they are willing to meet with the billionaire fashion enthusiast in his quest to turn the pages around, and do the right thing. They also issued a call to action to Kanye West, imploring him to take a serious and detailed look at his “constant doubling down on antisemitism.” They enjoined him to renounce each vile statement he made against the Jews in the past months. That way, he could convince the Jewish community of his sincerity in seeking redemption from antisemitism.
