Leaked Epic Games Free Game For May 30 Comes With One Major Caveat appeared on screenrant.com by Kyle Gratton.

Summary

  • Leaks claim that
    Chivalry 2
will be free on the Epic Games Store starting May 30.
  • Recent Steam reviews of
    Chivalry 2
highlight problems with cheaters and bugs.
  • Chivalry 2
is heavily focused around online PvP, making these issues potentially intolerable.

May 30 will mark yet another free game giveaway on the Epic Games Store, but what has the potential to be an exceptional gift may be soured by recent developments. Seemingly in the interest of wresting some market share from PC gaming’s most popular digital storefront, Valve’s Steam, free game giveaways have become common on the Epic Games Store, typically with one offered every week. Taking advantage of the giveaways typically involves no attached strings – i.e. no continued subscription requirement like PlayStation Plus’ monthly games – but that doesn’t make the deal immune to issues with the free game itself.

According to Dealabs Magazine (via Game Rant), as part of the Epic Game Store’s ongoing Mega Sale 2024, Chivalry 2 will be offered for free from May 30 to June 6. The first-person, multiplayer medieval warfare title was released in 2021 as a long-awaited follow-up to 2012’s Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. While certainly enticing to those who haven’t yet had the opportunity to play Torn Banner Studios’ latest, a look at recent user reviews on the game’s Steam page may instill some trepidation: there are numerous reports of players encountering cheaters in Chivalry 2.

Cheaters May Ruin The Chivalry 2 Experience

Chivalry 2 Reportedly Free On EGS May 30 To June 6

While Chivalry 2 being the next free EGS game is unverified, the author of the Dealabs piece is billbil-kun, a reputable leaker. Upcoming mystery giveaway games on the Epic Game Store typically aren’t revealed until the day the 100% discount begins. Sadly, it would appear that some may have a less than stellar experience in Chivalry 2, if Steam reviews are to be believed. The game is almost entirely focused around online PvP, an experience that cheaters can ruin quite easily.

It would certainly be a contrasting experience to the current free Epic Games Store title, Farming Simulator 22, which is often enjoyed as a relaxing, solo escape. Steam reviews for Chivalry 2 cite cheaters, frequent server disconnections, and a litany of bugs, with many specifically blaming developer Torn Banner for failing to address such issues while simultaneously introducing new bugs with each successive update. Chivalry 2 is usually one of the preeminent titles in the melee slasher genre, Mordhau being another popular title, but its reputation could be turning.

The current state of the game seems to be in stark contrast to Chivalry 2‘s debut on Steam (roughly a year after it released on PC through EGS exclusively), which was accompanied by an update bringing a wealth of new content to the game. Reports of widespread cheating in Chivalry 2 is unfortunate, as the game being free on the Epic Games Store could bring an influx of new players, though many may be turned away if first impressions are bad. Regardless, it’s worth claiming the title while it’s free, and hoping Torn Banner can work out the current issues affecting the game.
