Lionel Messi links up with Ed Sheeran as Argentine’s family singalong to artist appeared on www.express.co.uk by Richard Garnett.

Lionel Messi proved that he was not the only superstar in town when he treated his whole family to a special meet and greet with another artist at the peak of his powers, none other than Ed Sheeran.

The ‘Shape of You’ singer was in Florida to perform live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Sunday evening but with friends in high places Inter Miami talisman Messi managed to arrange a private gathering with his wife and three kids and the British star.

The former Barcelona great posted a photograph on Instagram showing Sheeran posing for a group picture with him, alongside other half Antonela Roccuzzo and their sons, Mateo, Thiago and Ciro.

And in a video shared on Instagram, Messi and his sons are shown sitting together on a sofa with the young boys singing along in English to Sheeran’s smash hit ‘Bad Habits’.

The short film soon captured the imagination of fans on social media, quickly amassing over 2 million likes on the social media platform.

Sheeran has long been a big star in the US but it is Messi mania that is currently sweeping across the country since his arrival in Miami over the summer.

The World Cup-winning captain has scored 11 goals for the David Beckham-owned team in 14 appearances since making the switch from Paris Saint Germain. He helped guide his new club to their first silverware triumph by winning the Leagues Cup just weeks after arriving, but he was not able to prevent the previously struggling side from missing out on a playoff spot at the end of the regular season.

Inter Miami were rooted to the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference when Messi arrived and although the Argentine legend has spearheaded to reversal in fortunes alongside his former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, it was too little too late for this season as Miami finished in 14th position, one place off the bottom.

Teams ranked as low as ninth still have the chance to make it into the post-season playoffs but the gap proved to be too big for Messi and co to bridge and instead, they will have to reset and go again next season.

It is not clear whether Messi and his family attended the Ed Sheeran concert in Florida, but if they want to catch him in action again they will have to switch coasts as he is due to perform in Las Vegas on October 28.
