Liverpool stars disagree over Messi award win as Klopp advantage clear appeared on www.liverpool.com by Liverpool.com.
Liverpool has had a tight fixture schedule over the past couple of weeks but it was good to see one Reds player earn some individual recognition at the Best FIFA Football Awards earlier this week.
With Jürgen Klopp’s side set to end the season trophy-less unless they can overturn Real Madrid’s 5-2 advantage away at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Champions League, supporters will likely celebrate the small triumphs wherever possible, and so it was good to see Virgil van Dijk named in this year’s FIFPro World XI. As the legendary Lionel Messi went away with the biggest men’s award of the night — the Best Player — it did bring up one big Liverpool-related talking point, as will be revealed below.
Van Dijk was present alongside Messi as he was named in the FIFPro World XI on Monday night but will be back on Merseyside as Liverpool take on Wolves on Wednesday, where Klopp’s side will look to put a major advantage to good use. Of course, Liverpool will face arch-rivals Manchester United this weekend and the Reds will be hoping to go into that game off the back of a win.

Liverpool duo disagree on Messi award
One would hope that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah see eye-to-eye on a variety of issues but it seems the Liverpool pair were on a different page when it comes to the the Best Player award at The Best FIFA Football Awards on Monday night.
As captains of their respective national teams, the duo were entitled to cast their votes in the category of the Best Player of the last calendar year. It was a tough year to judge in many ways as the World Cup in Qatar — technically supposed to be outside the reference period — threw up even more names to consider, and it looks as though Van Dijk and Salah could not agree on who to pick this time around.
Intriguingly, Van Dijk agreed with club teammate Andy Robertson, with both picking Lionel Messi as the best player. However, it seems that Salah had other ideas and instead went for Vinícius Jr, who scored the winning goal in the Champions League final in Paris last June.

Liverpool can exploit double advantage
Liverpool is looking to get back to winning ways following a drab 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and faces Wolves knowing that it will have to get points on the board if it is to stand a chance of making this year’s final Premier League top four.
The Reds will need any advantage they can get at this point, and with the game being at Anfield, the players will be hoping that the supporters present can carry them to victory. With another home game to come at the weekend against Manchester United, the unity between the players and the fans will be all-important as Liverpool look to gain ground on Tottenham and Newcastle.
Of course, Liverpool were beaten comfortably in their last game at Anfield against Real Madrid but both supporters and players alike will be hoping the allure of the old ground returns this week, with a deceptively good home record so far this season.
