Announcement from National Editor Matea Gold, Deputy National Editor Phil Rucker and Senior Politics Editor Dan Eggen:
We are very happy to announce that Maegan Vazquez is joining The Post as a reporter on National’s politics breaking news team.
Maegan comes to The Post from CNN, where she has worked as a White House reporter for the past five years, writing for CNN.com. In that role, she has been known for her swift and careful coverage of some of the biggest stories involving the presidency in recent years, including both of then-President Donald Trump’s impeachments, the Russia investigation and the federal response to the covid-19 pandemic. She has also demonstrated a keen eye for compelling enterprise pieces, interviewing then-Labor Secretary Marty Walsh about his sobriety, harnessing data to illustrate the unique aspects of the Trump presidency and taking readers inside President Biden’s former private office where classified documents were discovered.
Before covering the White House, Maegan served as a breaking news reporter covering politics at CNN for nearly a year. She also held several editorial roles at the start-up news website the Independent Journal Review, including White House reporter. In 2018, she received the National Press Foundation’s Paul Miller Washington Reporting Fellowship.
Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Maegan is a graduate of New York University, where she majored in journalism and social and cultural analysis. She resides in Washington with her partner, Jonathan, and in her spare time loves to craft and take casual hikes around the DMV.
Maegan starts today – please join us in welcoming her.
