Man Utd expect Cristiano Ronaldo to leave in January transfer window appeared on www.express.co.uk by Ryan Taylor.

Manchester United reportedly expect Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club in January as they begin work on sounding out potential replacements for their five-time Ballon d’Or winner. The Old Trafford hierarchy had a real task on their hands trying to keep the seasoned veteran in the summer window when CR7 made it clear he wanted to move onto pastures new so that he could play Champions League football.

Despite netting 18 Premier League goals last season, Ronaldo failed to help United finish in the top-four as their campaign finished with a whimper after recording their lowest-ever points tally under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Jorge Mendes found it increasingly difficult to land Ronaldo a move after floating the player to Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Chelsea amongst others.

The Portuguese international therefore stayed put against his will, but the drama did not step there after Ronaldo was dropped by Erik ten Hag for storming down the tunnel before the final whistle during the 2-0 win over Tottenham.

He has since regained his place in the side but now Sky Germany are reporting that the forward is unlikely to remain with his current club for the remainder of the season.

Choupo-Moting has already made it clear that he would like to remain with the Bundesliga champions but there has been no agreement over an extension to date.

“I’m very, very happy at Bayern and can of course imagine staying here longer,” he told Sportbuzzer. “I’m just concentrating on Bayern Munich and I am here for now.”

United have also been linked with Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix but they are now believed to be of interest at this moment in time.

Felix is expected to be placed up for sale by Atletico Madrid due to tensions between the attacker and Diego Simeone.

The pair’s relationship appears to have soured this season and Atletico are now in need of cash following their elimination from the Champions League.

Felix is deemed the perfect marketable asset given he is still of huge value following his £113million move to the Wanda Metropolitano from Benfica in the summer of 2019.

United had tried to replace Ronaldo in the summer but failed to find a successor for their frontman having briefly considered a swoop for Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez before his switch to Anfield.

Erik ten Hag is now expected to target a stop-gap option that will allow United to focus on landing a marquee No 9 in the summer transfer window at the end of the campaign.
