McClure unseats Krajc in runoff, takes last seat on Myrtle Beach City Council appeared on www.postandcourier.com by Post and Courier.
MYRTLE BEACH — Bill McClure secured the last remaining seat on Myrtle Beach City Council, besting incumbent John Krajc in a Nov. 21 runoff.
McClure received 1,811 votes while Krajc garnered 1,690, according to unofficial results. Although Krajc received more votes in the Nov. 7 election, he fell short of the margin needed to avoid a runoff. The runoff results are scheduled to be certified at City Hall on Nov. 22.
“Thank you to everyone that voted for me. I deeply appreciate it,” McClure said. “I also appreciate all the people that came out to vote. We had a really great turnout two days before Thanksgiving, and it rained in the middle of the day. I think we all appreciate the voters coming out.”
McClure said he and Krajc both campaigned hard, and he congratulated Krajc on his efforts. He said he looks forward to transitioning onto the council and working with city leaders to improve public safety, infrastructure and representation.
“It gives an opportunity for change in the city,” McClure said. “It will give me time, and the citizens time, to look at the things that I was pushing for, like independent voting wards so that we can have more equal representation across the city.”
Although Krajc was disappointed, he congratulated McClure and said he hopes to continue serving the city in other ways. When asked about seeking office again, Krajc said he would not rule it out, though he hopes to serve the city in any capacity he can.
“I started this journey in service volunteering before I was on City Council and continuing to give service during my time, and that won’t stop,” Krajc said. “There’s a lot of great things left to be done in the city of Myrtle Beach, and I’m extremely excited to continue to be a part of them, whether it’s in an elected capacity or not.”
The other two contested seats on the council went to newcomer Debbie Conner and incumbent Michael Chestnut, who received 2,531 votes and 2,397 votes, respectively, on Nov. 7. The seats are nonpartisan and their terms expire Dec. 31, 2028.
