Mike Tyson's reps destroy Fedor Emelianenko's dreams of a potential fight appeared on www.marca.com by Matias Wodner.
Over the last couple of years, the sport has seen a sharp rise in celebrity, influencer and exhibition boxing matches. While purists aren’t big supporters of the shifting tide, it does sometimes provide fans with matchups between former fighting greats.
That’s what many were hoping for when a rumor circulated that MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko had agreed to a boxing fight with Mike Tyson. According to the report, Emelianenko himself was the “source”.
Mike Tyson vs Fedor Emelianenko is NOT happening
It didn’t take long, but it appears the fight is dead on arrival. Sun Sport’s Chisanga Malata has reported that the rumor is completely false, according to Tyson’s representatives.
Contrary to reports, Mike Tyson is NOT in negotiations to box MMA icon Fedor Emelianenko in Saudi. His reps told me today: ‘This is false. Mr. Tyson has not spoken to anyone in his camp. He is not interested in doing a fight with him now or in the future’.”
It’s a straight-to-the-point statement leaving no room for ambiguity.
Tyson hasn’t fought since an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in November of 2020. That match ended in a draw, although many believed Tyson should have won.
Fedor, meanwhile, is coming up on the one-year anniversary of his retirement from MMA. His final fight came in February of 2023, when he lost to Ryan Bader for the Bellator Heavyweight World Championship.
