MLB Phenom Shohei Ohtani Joined Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams and Tom Brady in an Elite Category After His Sensational 2021 Season appeared on www.essentiallysports.com by EssentiallySports.
After arriving in Los Angeles from Japan, Shohei Ohtani didn’t instantly set the MLB stage on fire. In fact, the starting two years of his career enveloped major injuries that restricted his all-around abilities. However, after he returned to the MLB in full health in 2021, he inaugurated the start of a brand-new and accomplished career.

Undoubtedly, Ohtani’s all-around abilities, which include slugging, playing in the outfield, and pitching, makes him a massive catch for any MLB team. And his two-way capacity didn’t go unnoticed after he won the American League MVP award in 2021.

Shohei Ohtani makes his way into a precious list
Ohtani’s 2021 season was one to remember for the Los Angeles star. He smashed 46 homers at 0.257 with 138 hits and 100 runs batted in. However, that wasn’t it. He also started in 23 games as a pitcher and managed 156 strikeouts at an ERA of 3.18. Consequently, Ohtani found his way to Time’s Magazine list of 100 most influential people.
He appeared on this list led by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in the icon section alongside Naomi Osaka and Britney Spears.
On the same list, Tom Brady, Simone Biles, Elon Musk, and Billie Elish were present, too.
The curious case of the 2022 American League MVP award

If 2021 set an example of what Shohei Ohtani can produce, in 2022, he matched and dominated his own past record. With 35 home runs, 160 hits, 95 runs batted in, and 219 strikeouts at an economical rate of 2.33, Ohtani topped himself. However, 2022 housed the power of Aaron Judge, who smashed 62 home runs, broke Roger Maris’ American League record, and carried the Yanks to the Championship Series.
While the Yanks were swept by the Astros in the Championship Series, the Angels didn’t tread close to the postseason. However, the question that remains is whether the team’s performance should come in between individual performances while selecting the MVP.
