‘Most lifelike deepfake’ ever terrifies viewers who ask ‘is Morgan Freeman real’ appeared on www.dailystar.co.uk by Dailystar.co.uk.
Can you tell reality from fiction? That’s the question ‘Morgan Freeman‘ wants you to ask yourself.
A terrifyingly realistic deepfake clip of the actor has baffled Twitter users, thanks to its photorealistic and lifelike qualities.
The clip shows ‘Morgan Freeman‘ talking directly to the camera and informing viewers that what they see ‘is not real’ and announcing the era of ‘synthetic reality’.

However, the clip isn’t of Morgan Freeman at all. He flickers in and out of view, swapping places with a different man using the same facial expressions and speaking in his voice. The video is, in fact, a deepfake.

Rather than being a video of Morgan Freeman, the viral clip is actually a deepfake produced by AI whiz Bob de Jong, a filmmaker who works for Dutch firm Revel.ai.
Meanwhile, the voice of the deepfake is provided by Dutch voice actor Boet Schouwink. Together, the pair demonstrate how easy it is to fool viewers with good acting and some powerful technology.
It has sparked a debate online about whether the Morgan Freeman shown in the clip was real or a deepfake.
One Twitter user, @adaptyteam, said: “My favourite part is how Morgan Freeman looks more real and detailed than the real prototype.”
Another wrote: “You can tell his facial expressions are not those of the real Morgan Freeman, though. I understand you may believe it’s easy to say once you know, but I do believe it does show. It isn’t really obvious, it’s true.”
Beyond that, the clip has ignited a whole discussion around reality and whether anybody will be able to distinguish fact from fiction in future.
Twitter user @LastManFilms said: “Man they weren’t wrong when they said AI was gonna take over and kill us all. Like not through artificial sentience but through manufactured deception.”
Deepfakes are computer-generated videos which use artificial intelligence to create a convincing mimicry of real people.
This technology is growing increasingly sophisticated, and has been used to make digital ‘clones’ of celebrities and politicians say anything their creator wants.
In October, a deepfake challenge asked users to examine a clip of Scarlett Johansson and Elizabeth Olsen to determine who was being deepfaked.
