Music from Memory founder Jamie Tiller has died appeared on mixmag.net by Mixmag.
DJ, producer and Music From Memory founder Jamie Tiller has died.
Label parters Boris Van Der Hoff, Tako Reyenga and Nick Verbakel wrote in a statement on Instagram: “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to announce that our dear friend and founder of Music From Memory, Jamie Tiller passed away on Sunday, October 15 following a tragic accident.”
“Our deepest condolences go out to Jamie’s wife, son and family and friends. We wish them all the strength in the world to get through this incredibly difficult time.”
“Jamie was an absolute inspiration and an amazing friend,” the statement continues. “He approached music with a purity and humility that gave joy to so many. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to touch and inspire people all around the world.”
Celebrated in both his role as a label curator and DJ for his unparalleled ability to spotlight underrecognised music from across the spectrum of electronic music, Jamie Tiller’s instinctive approach to digging helped Music From Memory become a mainstay for music fans on the hunt for hidden treasures.
Originally from London, Jamie Tiller first established Music From Memory alongside Tako Reyenga in 2013 while the pair were living in Amsterdam. pledging to put as much focus on reissuing music from the past, as well as more modern releases.
With a background as a record store buyer (most notably for Amsterdam’s Redlight Records), Tiller worked to ensure MfM treated obscure music from the past and burgeoning genres with the same care; releasing much from the likes of Suso Saiz, Suzanne Kraft, RAMzi, Yu Su and more.
In 2014, Tiller and Reyenga established sister imprint Second Circle, as an avenue for some of their own productions and genre-bending music.
This same curiosity, and dedication to treating the masses to the “best music they’ve never heard of” could be found in his DJ sets — his reputation for eclectic, buoyant selections saw him play all over the world, from Mexico City to Thailand.
In recent years Jamie had moved to Berlin, making regular appearances at venues such as Club OST and ÆDEN.
Jamie’s Music from Memory label parters shared with fans that “more details regarding a farewell and celebration of Jamie’s life and legacy,” will follow in coming days.
