Narayana Murthy dedicated American singer and actor Elvis Presly’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” track to Sudha Murty.
Narayana Murthy married Sudha Murty in 1978, four years after they first met.
A video of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy singing an Elvis Presley song has been warming hearts online. The romantic gesture was for his wife and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty during the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit.
In the now-viral Instagram video, the Infosys co-founder can be seen seated on stage, microphone in one hand and his smartphone in the other to read the lyrics, as he sings the timeless Elvis classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The IIT Kharagpur alumnus even tries to mimic the original intonation of the King of Rock and Roll.
“Wise men say, only fools rush in. But I can’t help falling in love with you. Shall I stay? Would it be a sin, if I can’t help falling in love with you?” Murthy dedicates these lines to his wife.
In response to this, an individual wrote, “He has a good taste in music.”
“He knows the real music tho,” said another.
A third commented, “Wow! That’s pretty cool.”
“Pookie mode on,” expressed a fourth.
This isn’t the first time Narayana Murthy has dedicated songs to his wife, Sudha Murty. Sharing a fond memory, the billionaire businessman revealed that during their time in Pune, he would often break into songs at restaurants, earning the couple the nickname “gaane wale jodi” (the singing couple) from the waitstaff. His favorite song is Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.
Recently, Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show streaming on Netflix. Among various anecdotes, they shared their love story and insights from their 46-year marriage. When host Kapil Sharma inquired about Narayana Murthy’s first impression of Sudha Murty, he affectionately said, “Meeting her was a breath of fresh air. She has always been positive, kind, and very talkative. She wanted a good listener… So, she was happy, and I was happy.”
