Chicago Bulls and NBA legend Michael Jordan has proven to be the unlikely inspiration behind Brighton’s impressive 3-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Goals from Julio Enciso, Pervis Estupinan and Deniz Undav secured a comfortable win for the Seagulls, and landed a huge dent into the Gunners’ title charge.

After a tight opening 45 minutes, Enciso opened the scoring for the visitors with a close range header. As Arsenal pushed for an equaliser, they were opened up five minutes from time as Undav lobbed a helpless Ramsdale to add a second.

As the Emirates emptied salt was rubbed into the wounds, as Estupinan added a third late on in an afternoon to forget for Mikel Arteta’s side. In the opposite dugout Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was more than pleased with his team as they continued their hunt for European football.

And speaking afterwards, goalscorer Undav revealed the tactic his manager used to get the Seagulls up for the clash in North London. He told Sky Sports: “We showed a good reaction after defeat by Everton. It was a big three points and we’re happy we got the win.

“The manager showed us a Michael Jordan video to show us how he motivated himself each game. He showed us after the defeat by Everton and I think it was the right choice to show us the video and we showed today how mentally strong we are.”

For Arsenal they now sit four points behind leaders Manchester City, who also have a game in hand. A first Premier League title is slipping further from the grasp, and for Arteta it seems the dream is already over.
