New exhibition features The Beatles in comics appeared on www.liverpoolecho.co.uk by Liverpool Echo.

A new exhibition in Liverpool celebrates the Beatles’ influence on the world of comic books.

Curated by former Spider-Man editor Tim Quinn, the exhibition has officially opened at the Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street.

The collection presents artwork featuring the Beatles from world-famous cartoonists, including Gerald Scarf, Giles, and Private Eye’s Tony Husband.

The exhibition will be an ongoing fixture at the Liverpool Beatles Museum, with new artwork being added continuously, curated by both Tim and Roag Best, brother of early Beatles drummer Pete Best.

Roag said of the exhibit: “Liverpool Beatles Museum is very proud to represent this era and theme of the Beatles in comics. We know about the movies, we know about the records, we know about all these different aspects, but we felt that the Beatles in comics had been overlooked.”

He said: “After sitting with Tim and discussing the exhibition, it seemed like a no brainer that we should do something to represent the Beatles in comics.”

Tim Quinn said: “The exhibition all started after I came across a comic which referenced the Beatles. Back in 1963, I was cutting these comics out and sticking them in a scrapbook as each Beatles reference came out. I then realised that the Beatles, as their fame grew, were just about everywhere in newspapers and magazines, and that somebody needed to compile this. I’ve been preparing for this exhibition for 60 years!”

The exhibition is now open to the public on the third floor of the Liverpool Beatles Museum.
