Obliteration: Work-in-Progress PS4 emulator for Linux/Windows

I’ll admit we’ve been reluctant to talk about yet-another PS4 emulator, in particular since this one currently does less than the existing competition. This is not to undermine the work of the developer behind this project, simply that we were waiting for more significant progress to talk about it. However, the more the merrier I guess, and other folks on the scene have sent us the signal that it matters, so here goes!

Obliteration is a PS4 emulator for windows/Linux, based on KyTy. It’s currently work in progress and doesn’t run commercial games at the moment.

What is Obliteration PS4 Emulator?

From the developer:

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce what I’m currently working on. It is a new PS4 emulator named Obliteration that derived from Kyty. The reasons I created this because:

  • From a recent commits on Kyty it look like the author shift focus to PS5 instead of PS4.
  • I’m a Linux user and I want a PS4 emulator that also work on Linux.
  • I want an emulator that 100% open-sourced and use a permissive license like MIT.
  • I want to experiment Rust on a console emulator.

AFAIK there is no PS4 emulator that meet all of above requirements so I decided to make it by myself. The project consist 2 parts:

  1. GUI written in Qt using C++.
  2. Core emulation written in Rust.

Current state of the project is in the process of migrating Kyty source to Rust so it cannot run any games that Kyty able to run yet. The project is open to everyone to contribute so just create a PR if you want to help.

The interface looks ok and that’s pretty much all we can say from an End User’s perspective at the moment

Features

  • Built-in PKG file supports for Fake PKG.

Youtuber and scene member BrutalSam has a video showcasing the emulator:

Technically this emulator doesn’t run anything right now, so we wouldn’t go as far as putting it in the “functional” emulators category yet. Those of you on Windows might want to check some of the other, functional, PS4 emulators, such as KyTy. Full list of PS4 Emulators here.
