Olivia Munn’s heart was in the right place when she tried to make a birthday cake for partner John Mulaney, as the comedian turned 41.

Olivia Munn documents moment she realizes she has fallen short in duplicating birthday cake from photo for partner John Mulaney and son.

And for everyone’s enjoyment, Munn captured the hilarious moments on camera and posted on her Instagram Stories.

‘I tried to make a four-layered birthday cake and the bottom layer is coming out,’ the actress can be heard saying from behind the camera, while giving her fans and followers a look at the less-than-perfect treat. 

‘This doesn’t look like the picture. What do you think, John?’ Munn asked Mulaney, who sat a few feet away at the table.

‘I never saw the picture, so it might look like it,’ the former SNL writer replied. 

‘Like and subscribe for more baking tips,’ Munn joked in the caption of the clip, in a reference to her falling short with the birthday cake.

To show a side-by-side comparison, Munn posted a professional photo of the cake she tried to duplicate with the caption, ‘The inspo,’ followed by a picture of her version that she dubbed, ‘The reality.’ 

It’s at this point that 21-month-old Malcolm tries to grab the knife that next to the cake, but the attentive mom quickly stopped him.

It turns out as Munn was safely moving the knife out of her son’s reach, he got his hands on the cake, and the evidence, in the form of white icing, can be seen dripping off his fingers.

‘Almost — I was too late, and I caught him at this stage,’ Munn said in the clip, which showed Malcolm’s hand covered in icing and a big dent in the side of the cake.

The toddler attempted to grab the cake again, and prompted Munn to shout, ‘Whoa, no no, no, no! Oh my gosh!’

Munn chimed back in, ‘Okay,’ as their son replied, ‘Oh no!,’ which elicited a laugh or two from the proud mom.

To cap off the birthday post, The Predator star shared a final photo of Mulaney’s birthday cake that was missing a few slices, along with a review of her baking 

‘The cake was delicious. And ugly. Success!’

Munn and Mulaney began dating in June 2021, which was one month after the stand-up comedian split from his wife Anna Marie.
