OLLI: Civics 101: How The Congress and Federal Government Work?
About this Event
Our representative system of government works by dividing the power and authority between levels of government, creating a system of checks and balances. In the United States, our representative government gets its power to govern from we the people. Therefore, we have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We the citizens in the United States shape our government and its policies.
During this class, Bob Rodweller, retired executive of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., will discuss how the congress and federal government was originally designed to work. He will also discuss our rights and responsibilities which will allow us to better understand and participate in the American political process to ensure it is responsive to our needs.
