Only Connect host’s ‘least favourite question’ of series has people stumped appeared on www.mirror.co.uk by mirror.
Only Connect host Victoria Coren-Mitchell was baffled when she had to present an ‘ungettable’ question to contestants – and viewers at home were also left stumped

It’s widely accepted that Only Connect might be one of the hardest quiz shows on TV right now, as it takes a special kind of brain power to be able to look at four seemingly unrelated clues and find the obscure thing that links them all together. What’s more, the quiz even awards you more points for finding the link before all four clues are revealed, so you can prove you’re a super genius by getting the connection after seeing just two clues.
However, one question presented on the show was so difficult to work out that even the programme’s host, Victoria Coren-Mitchell, was stumped by it, as she branded it “ungettable” and said it was her “least favourite question” of that series. Aired in 2021, the question asked contenders to correctly identify the last picture in a sequence.

The first image showed 20 squares alongside a note which revealed one square was equal to 43.560 sq ft, while the second image showed the same thing but with 43 squares. The third image seemed to show a piece of machinery you might see on a farm, and contestants and viewers then had to work out what the final image would be, as well as what linked the clues together.
And Victoria, who believed the question was so difficult it was unsolvable, was left gobsmacked when one of the teams actually managed to work it out and bag themselves some points. She said: “This is my least favourite question in the whole series. I think it’s ungettable. I hate almost everything about it. I said nobody could get it.”
Do you know what the answer is? We’ll talk you through it now. The first two pictures are supposed to depict acres, with the first showing 20 acres and the second showing 43. The machinery was a combine harvester, and the final picture was of a key. The four pictures came together to form the lyrics to the chorus of The Wurzels song, I’ve Got A Brand New Combine Harvester – “I got 20 acres and you got 43, now I got a brand new combine harvester and I’ll give you the key”.
Frustrated with the question, Victoria added: “Here’s my problem … why would you look at that and it says square feet – why would you change it into acres? Even if you knew that weird machinery was a combine harvester from the song, how would you know that it goes ‘I’ll give you the key’? It doesn’t make any sense. It makes no sense.”
