The Netflix series “Quarterback” chronicles events on and off the field for the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, along with Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, who is now with the Eagles.

Viewers will see some of Mahomes’ biggest moments from the 2022 season and time he spent with his wife, Brittany, and their kids. Cameras also show Mahomes’ training regimen.

Executive producer Peyton Manning, the former Broncos and Colts quarterback, told the New York Post why he believes Mahomes took part in the project.

“I could tell that Patrick wanted to do it, so his kids would know what he used to do and what his life is like, because they’re so young now,” Manning told Ryan Glasspiegel. “To tell you about the respect that he has for the organization, (Mahomes) said that I should talk to coach (Andy) Reid first.”

Manning suggested that Mahomes tell Reid why the series was of interest to the NFL MVP. Instead, Mahomes insisted Manning talk to Reid. That humbleness made quite the impression on Manning.

“It was very telling. Here you’ve got the best player in the NFL right now, that could probably say this is what I’m doing, I don’t care whether you like it or not. Instead, he wants me to ask his head coach for permission,” Manning told the Post.

Reid was on board with the show on one condition: the cameras wouldn’t be around for Reid’s meetings, the Post reported.

“There’s a trust factor,” Manning said. “I promised all these guys that anything they didn’t want in it wasn’t gonna be in it.

“These guys had to be comfortable with everything. At the same time, we felt like we wanted to tell the story of what it’s like to be a quarterback and all that goes with it.”

Mahomes told reporters last month that he appreciated Reid and the Chiefs approving the project.

“Thanks to the Chiefs and Coach Reid for letting us do it throughout the season,” Mahomes said. “I’ve watched pretty much all of it, it’s going to be cool for everybody to see. There’s a lot more of the ‘I’m like that’ stuff in there that I left in there. But I couldn’t leave it all in there because I say a lot of wild stuff out there.”

“Quarterback” debuts Wednesday on Netflix. All eight episodes will be released at 2:01 a.m. Central time.
