The prosecution and defense attorneys in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting trial met with U.S. District Judge Robert Colville Thursday for a status conference.Defendant Robert Bowers was not present in the courtroom, but a team of nearly a half-dozen defense attorneys was there on his behalf. They include federal public defenders and private attorney Judy Clarke, who represented the Unabomber and the Boston Marathon Bomber. Acting U.S. Attorney for Western Pennsylvania Troy Rivetti and his office are prosecuting the case.The process of screening individual potential jurors starts Monday morning at 8:30. The task is to pick 12 jurors and six alternates.Thursday, attorneys discussed the instructions the judge will give the potential jurors before they are individually screened and discussed the language of instructions the jurors will get during the trial before they start deliberating.There will be limited space in the courtroom for the trial.The prosecution wants 20 seats reserved for surviving victims and families of victims.The defense is asking for 10 seats for its side but the prosecution suggests the defense get four to five seats.There will be overflow rooms with video feeds of the trial proceedings — one for the news media, one for victims and their families, and one for the public.
