PlayStation Acquires Mobile Developer Savage Game Studios
PlayStation mobile push has intensified with the acquisition of mobile developer, Savage Game Studios. Early this morning, Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst took to the PS Blog to not only unveil the company’s newest acquisition, but also announce the establishment of PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will operate independently from the console business. Hulst also reassured fans that Sony’s still committed to console games and single-player experiences.
PlayStation mobile division will make games based on new and existing IP
Although it’ll operate independently, the newly-formed PlayStation mobile division will make games based on existing as well as new PlayStation IP. Savage Game Studios is a relatively new developer, having only been founded a few years ago. However, Hulst says that Savage is run by “hugely talented” creatives with experience making popular games enjoyed by players around the world. Savage’s website doesn’t reveal much, except that it has offices in Finland and Germany. A statement from its CEO and co-founder, Michail Katkoff, on the acquisition reads:
We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be ‘why not?’ On behalf of everybody at Savage Game Studios, thank you for having us. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!
Hulst added that Sony is committed to expanding beyond console, opening its IPs to a wider audience.
