QUIZ: Can you name the team from Cristiano Ronaldo‘s first international start for Portugal? appeared on www.sportbible.com by Ryan Smart.
Cristiano Ronaldo is now the top international goalscorer and appearance maker of all-time – nearly 20 years on from his first Portugal start.
That came in a 5-3 victory over Albania in an international friendly in October 2003. Ronaldo, wearing the number 11 shirt, lined up on the right wing for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side.
It wasn’t quite the dream first start the 18-year-old would have hoped for, however, as he was substituted at half-time with the scores at 2-1 to Albania.
Still, it wasn’t long before Ronaldo made a significant impact on the Portugal side. He scored seven goals in 11 competitive matches in the following year, including netting twice at Euro 2004.
Having passed the 100-goal mark for Portugal in September 2020, Ronaldo continues to keep on scoring.
In this SPORTbible quiz, we’re challenging you to recall each player named in the Portugal starting XI alongside Ronaldo for that 5-3 win over Albania.
We need surnames only, and there’s a HINT button – which reveals one letter of a player’s name – if you need it.
