Report: Austin police officer killed in shooting, another injured appeared on spectrumlocalnews.com by Spectrum News Staff.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department on Saturday morning reported it is investigating a shooting involving its officers in South Austin.
The department said it took place in the 9300 block of Bernoulli Drive, which is located west of Interstate 35, near the intersection of West Slaughter Lane and West Gate Boulevard.
The department said there will be a media briefing but that the time has not yet been determined.
The Austin American-Statesman is reporting that one officer was killed in the shooting and another officer was injured.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson confirmed the death in a statement he made available on the social media platform X.
“My heart and the hearts of Austinites are broken this morning. This is a horrible moment for our city and those who protect us. I’m praying for the family of our fallen officer, for our officer who was shot and in surgery and his family,” Watson wrote.
There is a large police presence at the scene.
This is a developing story.
