Riley Gaines uses Battle of the Sexes in Venus and Serena Williams losing to ATP World No. 203 in argument against trans inclusion in sports: “They are phenoms for women” appeared on tennisuptodate.com by Arthur Ajayi.
Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines has been vocal about including transgender athletes in women’s sports, and used the example of Venus Williams and Serena Williams losing to a lower-ranked male athlete to support her case.
Gaines was called to present her case during a June 21st hearing that dwelled on the civil rights of LGBTQ Americans, with special focus on transgender youths. After pondering whether biological male athletes have a physical advantage over biological female athletes, Gaines, a prominent advocate against the inclusion of transgender athletes in women sports, was asked to provide her opinion.
The former collegiate swimmer proceeded to recall when Serena and Venus Williams lost to then ATP World No. 203 Karsten Braasch.
“Both Serena and Venus lost to the 203rd ranked male tennis player, which, they are phenoms for women,” Gaines said.
However, Human Rights Campaign president Kelley Robinson, who was on the panel, fired back by saying biological men having a physical advantage over biological women was not a ‘definitive statement.’
