Taron Egerton is giving insight into how Elton John is coping with losing his eyesight.

On Thursday, November 5, the 35-year-old English actor who famously portrayed the legendary singer in the 2019 biopic Rocketman, attended the Los Angeles premiere of his own new Netflix action thriller Carry-On.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the event, Egerton shared a brief update on how the “I’m Still Standing” hitmaker is feeling amid his health struggles.

The Golden Globe Award winner noted John, 77, is a resilient person, telling the outlet, “Yeah, he’s doing OK. I mean, has always been a very resourceful, bullish person.” The Kingsman: The Secret Service star added he will be visiting the songwriter soon. “I land in London next weekend, and I’m actually going straight to see him,” Egerton remarked.

In November, John spoke with Good Morning America about the status of his condition telling interviewer Robin Roberts, “I, unfortunately, lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France. It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.”

While the EGOT winner said he couldn’t make music, he told Roberts, 64, he was staying positive and working on getting his eye healthy.

“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck in the moment because I can do something like this [interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know because I can’t see a lyric [to] start,” John stated. “We’re taking initiative to try and get it better. That’s really what we’re concentrating on. It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen.”

John first shared what was going on with his eye in September via an Instagram statement writing, “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he shared.

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” John added. “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
