Rome: A Storm After Statements Made by Emmanuela Orlandi’s Brother appeared on fsspx.news by FSSPX.Actualités / FSSPX.News.
Laura Sgrò, the lawyer for Emanuela Orlandi’s brother, tried to calm things down with a press release issued on April 14, 2023, following the media storm caused by Pietro Orlandi’s statements suggesting that John Paul II could have played a direct role in the disappearance of his sister from the center of Rome almost 40 years ago, on June 22, 1983.
The promoter of justice of the Holy See, Alessandro Diddi decided to reopen this case in January. He listened to Pietro Orlandi for eight hours on April 11. That same evening, the brother of the disappeared girl made sensational statements on television which were shocking.
Mr. Orlandi quoted the testimony of a mafioso, filed with the Vatican prosecutor, which mentioned night outings made by John Paul II with two Polish monsignors, adding that the pope “was certainly not going to bless some houses” according to him. A way of insinuating a lot of things…
Polish Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, Archbishop Emeritus of Krakow and former secretary of John Paul II, reacted strongly, denouncing the “disjointed accusations, false from start to finish, unrealistic, laughable, if they were not themselves tragic, even criminal.”
The Holy See reacted on April 14 with an article by the editorial director of Vatican Media, Andrea Tornielli, published by Vatican News. He denounces in these accusations as “madness.” Adding: “it is unworthy of a civilized country to treat a person in this way, living or dead, whether cleric or layman, pope, metalworker, or young unemployed person.”
Mr. Tornielli agrees that an investigation into Emanuela’s disappearance is legitimate, but adds “no one deserves to be vilified like this, without even a shred of evidence, on the basis of the ‘rumors’ of an unknown criminal or a sordid anonymous commentary broadcast live on television.”
“I regret that some have extrapolated a few sentences by manipulating all of his statements,” reacted lawyer Laura Sgrò, present on the television set during these revelations. She notes that, among those who accuse her client, there are personalities who “avoided a confrontation with him,” despite numerous requests for an interview on his part.
“The search for the truth is an act of courage, and the Holy Father has shown that he wants to pursue this path with force,” insists Laura Sgrò, a very media-friendly lawyer who knows the mysteries of the Vatican well, since she is approved by the Roman Rota, the Vatican City State Court of Appeal and the Labor Office of the Apostolic See.
On Saturday morning, Vatican media published an article stating that the lawyer and her client “refuse to name names” to support allegations against John Paul II. Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, even made assurances that Laura Sgrò has remained silent, invoking “professional secrecy.”
The lawyer replied by making an assurance that she had given a list of 28 names provided by her client to the promoter on April 11 and that Pietro Orlandi remains “fully available” to provide other elements.
This new investigation into the disappearance of the young girl may not be easy for the promoter of justice who is already engaged with handling the “trial of the century” or “the case of the London building.”
