Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to make his Al-Nassr debut on January 5 amid claims he will be playing in Saudi Arabia from January 1. The Portugal international is currently a free agent following his release from Manchester United. And a new challenge in the Middle East now seems to be on the cards as he enters the twilight years of his glittering, successful career.
Manchester United cut Ronaldo loose at the end of November, shortly after the 37-year-old had given a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised the club, Erik ten Hag and the Glazers.
Now, according to Marca, the Portugal international is on the verge of signing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr with a deal already wrapped up.
It’s claimed Ronaldo ‘will play for the club from January 1’ after agreeing a lucrative contract worth a huge £171million a year.
The deal would make him the world’s best-paid footballer, gazumping what rivals Lionel Messi and Neymar currently earn at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Al-Nassr have apparently ‘shown the most interest in Ronaldo since the very beginning’, having previously probed a deal back in the summer.

Ronaldo will earn roughly £85m a year in wages, with the rest of his contract then boosted by advertising and other commitments.
Given he’s poised to join them on January 1, that means the five-time Champions League winner could feature when Al-Nassr lock horns with Al-Ta’ee on January 5.
And the Saudi side are now poised to become the fifth club of the veteran’s glittering career.
Ronaldo started his football adventure at Sporting Lisbon, establishing himself in the side before then joining United back in the summer transfer window of 2003 as a replacement for David Beckham.
After six years at Old Trafford, he moved to Real Madrid in £80m – where he’d proceed to score 450 goals across all competitions during a remarkable nine-year stint.

Ronaldo would join Juventus for a fee close to £100m in 2018, with the Old Lady recruiting him with the goal of winning the Champions League in mind.
And while that didn’t happen, he still won two Serie A titles in three years during his time at the Allianz Stadium.
Should Ronaldo move to Saudi, then it will be a lucrative transfer deal for the player – even by his high and dizzying standards.
But it would also signal the end of an era for the veteran, who has spent so long playing at the top for some of the biggest clubs on the planet.
United could replace their former No 7 when the transfer window reopens in January, with several players being linked.
Joao Felix would be one option, with the Portugal international open to leaving Atletico Madrid after struggling for goals under Diego Simeone.
Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven has been linked, with the forward scoring three goals from four matches for the Netherlands at the World Cup so far this winter.
And United have been credited with an interest in Rafael Leao, though AC Milan would be reluctant to let him go midway through the season.
Meanwhile, former Red Devils star Odion Ighalo was recently asked about Ronaldo.
And he expressed a belief that the 37-year-old would want to join a Champions League club, though did admit a move to Saudi would be great for the Middle Eastern nation.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is hugely ambitious, and I think he will want to play in a Champions League team and end his career well,” he said.
But you never can say.
“He has the decision to make. I wish him all the best in that decision, and hopefully, he does come to Saudi Arabia.
“I would love for him to come to Saudi because he would boost the league and add more fanbase to the league.
“People who aren’t already watching will start to engage with the league and see something they are missing.”
