Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan's Mystery Project Is A Vampire Film That Is Hoping To Begin Production This Summer appeared on theplaylist.net by The Playlist.
Just last week, news broke that Ryan Coogler was set to team up, yet again, with Michael B. Jordan for a new film. However, the more exciting thing (for studios at least) was the idea that this was going to kickstart a potential new franchise and that it was a “genre” film. Now, as the bidding war heats up, we have a bit more of an idea about what this film actually might be.

According to Deadline, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are, in fact, set to team up with each other again (they’ve worked together on “Fruitvale Station,” the ‘Creed’ franchise, as well as the ‘Black Panther’ franchise) on a new blockbuster genre movie. And they are currently shopping it around, with three major studios—Sony, Warner Bros., and Universal—all bidding on the project. While we don’t know full plot specifics, we know the film is a period piece about a vampire. And now it’s time for film fans to get excited.
The film is already reported to being not tied to any existing IP. So, whichever studio that snags this is getting something fresh and new from Coogler and Jordan. And keep in mind, these guys have yet to deliver a stinker. From the moment “Fruitvale Station” blew people away, these two have done nothing but turn in hit after hit together. So, you have to assume whatever they’re working on now is likely going to be massive.
So, with Sony, Warner Bros., and Universal in the mix, you might be wondering—where is Netflix, Amazon, or Apple? Well, the report claims Coogler and Jordan want a full, global theatrical release for this untitled film, which means the streaming services aren’t likely to be contenders.
Other bits about the film are the budget, which is said to be approximately $90 million. And apparently, Coogler wants to get this in production by mid-2024. So, this isn’t even a film that is years away. If the schedule gets figured out, this is a film we could be seeing in theaters in 2025.
Needless to say, we’re hyped about this movie. Sure, the vampire genre has been done a million different times before, but when you have Ryan Coogler writing and directing, there’s no way this is bad, right? Get excited, folks.
