Selena Gomez and Stacey Abrams team up for film on female musicians and activists appeared on www.washingtonexaminer.com by Julia Johnson.
Selena Gomez and Stacey Abrams are joining forces to make a music documentary for Discovery+.
Won’t Be Silent will be “a love letter to the women in music who have used their voices to change the course of history with their art and activism,” according to its logline.
In a statement, Gomez said, “The powerful women we will be highlighting are not only talented but have been on the front line of pushing culture forward and holding a mirror up to political and social injustices.”

Abrams, who recently lost her second bid for governor of Georgia, added, “Throughout history, women in music have used their art as activism by bringing attention to issues impacting our nation and world. Won’t Be Silent is a celebration of the artists who have contributed to bettering the world through their timeless music.”
Production reportedly began on Wednesday. The project is being directed by Kristi Jacobson and will focus on celebrating female musicians.
“Music is one of the most essential and inspiring elements of the human experience. In its most powerful form, music can be both an expression of struggle and the gateway to understanding. Won’t Be Silent will showcase the value of music through the lens of some of our greatest female artists and their powerful songs that inspire us in times of division and strife,” Vice President of Documentaries at Discovery+ Igal Svet explained in a statement.
“We admire how passionately Selena uses her enormous platform to speak out on issues affecting her generation and Stacey’s tireless pursuit of change. Together with Kristi Jacobson’s intimate and thoughtful directorial eye, this film will shine light on these enlightening stories in a way that only Selena and Stacey can,” he continued.

This week, Abrams released her second children’s book titled Stacey’s Remarkable Books. The book’s predecessor, Stacey’s Extraordinary Words, became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and won the NAACP Image Award in 2021.
Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) defeated Abrams easily in November, cruising to reelection. He beat the liberal star by a nearly 10-point margin. However, Trump-endorsed Senate candidate Herschel Walker was ultimately defeated by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in a Dec. 6 runoff election.
