Selena Gomez Did Her Best Impression of ‘Girl Crush’ Bella Hadid Years After Ex The Weeknd Drama appeared on www.elle.com by Alyssa Bailey.
In a testament to the healing power of time, Selena Gomez paid tribute to her “girl crush” Bella Hadid on her Instagram Story and TikTok yesterday, years after the two had public drama while Gomez was dating Hadid’s ex The Weeknd in 2017.
Gomez took part in the “I am Bella Hadid” TikTok trend, posting on the platform, “I wish I was as pretty as Bella Hadid.” She then shared a second video, where she said jokingly, “My name is Selena Gomez. See? It doesn’t even sound sexy.”
She posted a third story on her Instagram, calling Hadid her “girl crush.”
Celebrity news fan account PopFaction noted on Twitter that Lady Gaga weighed in on Gomez’s tribute, reminding her she’s also stunning. Gaga wrote, “you look and are beautiful inside and out one of my favorite ladies alive!”
Hadid didn’t respond publicly to Gomez’s tribute. Gomez follows Hadid on Instagram, although Hadid doesn’t follow Gomez currently. Still, Hadid has shown love to Gomez before, liking photos of her and even following Gomez’s Instagram in 2020.
Gomez and Hadid’s biggest drama was in 2017 during Gomez’s relationship with The Weeknd, which started months after Hadid and The Weeknd broke up in fall 2016. Both Hadid and Gomez made headlines for unfollowing the other on Instagram.
Ultimately, Gomez and The Weeknd broke up in October 2017. Hadid and The Weeknd dated again from July 2018 to August 2019, although they first started hanging out again in November 2017. Hadid is now dating Marc Kalman, while Gomez has been romantically linked to The Chainsmokers’ Drew Taggart.
Gomez and Hadid had a bit of drama in November 2019 after Gomez left a supportive comment on an Instagram Hadid shared, then Hadid deleted the post. Gomez’s fans noticed and interpreted the move as being a slight to Gomez. Gomez publicly commented on a post where a fan called Hadid’s deletion out, writing, “That sucks ?”
Ultimately, the two spoke privately about the incident. Multiple sources connected to Hadid told TMZ then that the model “actually went out of her way to reach out to Selena this weekend to squash any potential beef.”
The outlet wrote that Hadid “told Selena it was never about taking a shot [at her], the model simply deleted because she didn’t like the pic.” No hard feelings there, clearly: Gomez couldn’t be a bigger public supporter of Hadid now.
