Sen. Paul says more oversight needed in U.S. military’s overseas involvement appeared on www.weku.org by Stu Johnson.

Kentucky U.S Senator Paul says he’s concerned about worldwide military conflicts and the possible implication for America.

Senator Paul was speaking in Central Kentucky Tuesday. The GOP senator said that creates a bigger need for congressional oversight when it comes to U.S. military action. Paul said American troops are in 24 different conflicts.

“So, I’ve been for less involvement in military conflict. And if we’re going to be involved we have a clear cut conflict. We decide who are our friends, who are our enemies and we vote. Because I can’t see sending any young Kentuckians to die in a war there hadn’t been a debate over, whether we should be there or not. So, I think it’s important to have that debate,” said Paul.

Paul was in downtown Lexington Tuesday to participate in a posthumous Bronze Star Medal Ceremony and present other medals to the family of World War II veteran Cecil Raymond Steagall. Paul said in this case, there were some medals never received by his family.

Paul said he’s supportive of Donald Trump in the current presidential races but hasn’t decided to endorse or campaign for him. Paul says he didn’t like the debt added during the first Trump administration and the lockdown during COVID.

In current consideration, Paul said he’s been leading an investigation into the origin of COVID. And the GOP lawmaker says he believes it came from a lab in China and that government leaders there and in the U.S. have covered up information.

“What I’m looking for is a rock solid promise from former president Trump that if he’s elected again he’s going to give me access to my investigation to get to the bottom of why we did this and how we can prevent this from happening again,” said Paul.

Regarding the potential of Governor Beshear running for president in 2028, Paul said he supported Daniel Cameron in the governor’s race adding he’s not, quote, “jumping up and down saying Andy Beshear should be president.” Paul went on to say Beshear was elected under unique circumstances and that doesn’t translate to national acclaim. And the congressman concluded, “maybe I’ll be proven wrong over time, we’ll see.”
