Details regarding the resolution and frame rate for Sonic Frontiers have been revealed for the Switch, PS4, and PS5.
Twitter user tadanohi claims to have been in attendance at TGS 2022, and that they were able to ask the developer at the Sonic booth about details regarding the resolution and frame rate of Sonic Frontiers on the Switch, PS4, and PS5.
Sonic Frontiers Resolution & Frame Rate
According to the developer at the TGS 2022 Sonic Frontiers booth, the target resolution and frame rate for the Switch, PS4, and PS5 versions of the game are as follows.
- PS5 = 4K and 30fps (Graphics mode) / 1080p and 60fps (Performance mode)
- PS4 = 1080p and 30fps
- Switch = 720p and 30fps
Based on the aforementioned stats, the PS5 version appears to take a major hit to resolution in order to hit 60fps in Performance mode. Meanwhile, the PS4 version targets 1080p and runs at 30fps, and the Nintendo Switch version of Sonic Frontier targets 720p and 30fps in TV mode, tabletop mode and handheld mode. Additionally, the developer seemed to imply that a dynamic resolution is in effect in all versions of the game.
Meanwhile, Sega is confident in the current state of the latest entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Frontiers, after extensive playtesting.
In response to a question regarding fan feedback on Sonic Frontiers during an interview, series producer Takashi Iizuka stated that there was a lot of information out there, where fans were trying to figure things out on their own based on the trailers or assuming things regarding the game that weren’t necessarily correct. He added that this may have ultimately lead some people astray.
Sonic Frontiers is an upcoming 3D platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. After Sonic, Miles “Tails” Prower, and Amy Rose separate when falling through a wormhole, the player takes on the role of Sonic the Hedgehog and explores the enigmatic Starfall Islands in order to gather the Chaos Emeralds. The series’ first open world, where players solve puzzles to gather items, battle robot enemies, and incorporate platforming and classic Sonic elements like rings and grind rails.
