Sony has announced a PS1-themed 30th Anniversary Collection for the PlayStation 5.
If you’re still mulling over buying a PlayStation 5 Pro console, perhaps consider waiting for Sony’s newly-announced PlayStation 1-themed console bundle instead. To celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the company has revealed a set of limited-edition console bundles that give the PlayStation 5 Pro and discless PlayStation 5 a retro makeover, complete with the return of the PS1’s button colours and grey colourway.
‘Highly limited’ 30th anniversary PlayStation 5 bundles announced
The PlayStation 1 is making an unexpected return this year to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Sony’s recently announced PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection consists of redesigned PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles in addition to a controller, charging station, and vertical stand – all themed after the PlayStation 1’s grey visual design.
Sony has not announced an official price for these bundles yet, but don’t get your hopes high even if you can afford it. According to an official announcement, the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection “will be sold in highly limited supply”, with only 12,300 units of the PlayStation 5 Pro bundle planned for production. Each of these units will be individually numbered, making them more of collector’s items for diehard PlayStation fans.
Here is everything included in the PlayStation 5 Pro version of the 30th Anniversary bundle:
- Limited edition PS5 Pro console with 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7 in territories supporting this standard
- DualSense wireless controller
- DualSense Edge wireless controller
- DualSense Charging Station
- Console Cover for a Disc Drive (Disc Drive sold separately).
- Vertical Stand
- Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing
- Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
- PlayStation sticker
- Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)
- PlayStation Paperclip
The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary bundle includes the following:
- Limited edition PS5 Digital Edition console with 1TD SSD
- DualSense wireless controller
- Console Cover for a Disc Drive (Disc Drive sold separately).
- Vertical Stand
- Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing
- Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
- PlayStation sticker
- Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)
- PlayStation Paperclip
Aside from that, Sony is also selling 30th Anniversary editions of the PlayStation Portal Remote Player, DualSense Edge, and DualSense as standalone items. Unfortunately, we don’t have a price to attach to these items yet – but expect them to be pretty expensive.
The 30th Anniversary editions of the PlayStation 5 Pro bundle, Portal Remote Player, DualSense, and DualSense Edge will be available for pre-order alongside the regular PlayStation 5 Pro on September 26. Pre-orders for the Digital Edition bundle will open on October 10.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will launch on November 21.
