‘Star Wars Outlaws’ Will Bring Back A Fan Favorite ‘Solo’ Character appeared on www.forbes.com by Paul Tassi.
Star Wars Outlaws just debuted its first trailer yesterday, chronicling a new character’s ascent through the underworld, free from Jedi, Sith, Empire and Rebels. Smuggling, shooting, stealing. That’s the focus of Kay’s quest, but there will obviously be connections to the wider Star Wars universe. And one of them is pretty cool.
A new report on Star Wars: Outlaws from Game Informer confirms that Qi’ra, the Crimson Dawn criminal that was a major fixture in the film, right up to the final in which she reports back to a spider-legged Darth Maul, who survived his bisection, something we already knew from Filoni’s animation era and various comics.
Qi’ra herself has also appeared frequently in Star Wars comics, furthering her story, but now she will be a part of Outlaws as well, still with Crimson Dawn. Here’s what the Game Informer story says:
In Star Wars Outlaws, Kay must navigate the criminal underworld through four syndicates, each with its own leader. Jabba the Hutt, leader of the Hutt Cartel, stands out as the most recognizable underworld boss Kay crosses paths with, but she’ll also deal with Lady Qi’ra (who many know from Emilia Clarke’s portrayal in Solo: A Star Wars Story) of Crimson Dawn, Queen Ashiga of the Ashiga Clan (a new syndicate created for Outlaws) and Gorak of the Pyke Syndicate.
There she is, not exactly with Emilia Clarke’s face, but I imagine there are some likeness rights issues where you’re not allowed to just…take someone’s face, even if it’s a character they previously played. Still, I can sort of see the broad strokes.
Solo has become something of a favorite among Star Wars fans who think the film was treated too harshly at the time. It only (“only”) made $392 million worldwide, pretty low for a Star Wars film, and it more or less killed the idea of standalone Star Wars features indefinitely. There were rumors of an original plan to make multiple connected films in this era, which also would have included the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie that was eventually turned into a show.
If Qi’ra is in Outlaws it stands to reason that Darth Maul could end up being there as well, though I would not be shocked if he was kept under wraps until the game’s release, if that was the case, as that would be as big of a reveal as it was in Solo originally.
I’m not quite sure what I thought of the Outlaws trailer, as with Ubisoft’s aging engine things looked a bit…stiff, but I’m certainly interested in the storyline, and will be playing this August.
