Democratic Representative Adam Schiff is no longer the leader in the race to become California’s next senator. At latest count, baseball great and Republican Steve Garvey has inched ahead in the primary voting, with a lead of just under five-thousand votes. With 85-percent of ballots counted, it’s clear the two will move on to November but the lead could still change. Both are running to fill the seat of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein. Republican Garvey made a statement saying “it’s clear that our message of unity, common sense, and compassion resonates across the state.” A Republican hasn’t won a statewide race for any office in California since 2006.
