Tesla is being investigated over a possible glass house for Elon Musk | CPT PPP Coverage

But using company funds for a project like that could be a misuse of its resources, so internal and external investigations from federal agencies are trying to learn more about plans for the structure, which has been envisioned in a couple of different forms including the shape of a “twisted hexagon” and an “expansive glass box.” 

A civil investigation from the Securities and Exchange Commission is trying to learn more about the project following a similar investigation from Tesla’s board. Additionally, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has requested information about personal benefits paid to Musk and how much Tesla spent on the glass building project.

The Journal reports that some renderings of the glass box, known internally as “Project 42,” planned for it to be built near the Austin headquarters and seemed to include a residential area, implying Musk (or someone) may have intended to live in the box made of glass. 

The project was kept a secret, but employees rang alarm bells when Tesla reportedly ordered millions of dollars in specialized glass. It’s not known whether the glass was delivered or if the project is ongoing. 

Tesla board members previously investigated whether company resources were misused on the project and whether Musk has been personally involved, but the outcome of that investigation is unclear. 

The Journal reports that the investigations are in the early stages and formal allegations of wrongdoing might not be found.
