The greatest match Serena Williams played in her entire tennis career has been named appeared on www.thetennisgazette.com by @liam_l96.

Serena Williams has produced plenty of outstanding performances in her career but Rennae Stubbs has named the one she thinks is the best.

For over 25 years, the American broke multiple records in tennis and set a new standard with her electrifying game.

She claimed 23 Grand Slam titles and blazed a trail in the sport the likes of which had never been seen before.

Two years after her emotional tennis farewell at the US Open, her former coach Rennae Stubbs selected Williams’ best ever tennis performance.

Rennae Stubbs names Serena Williams’ best match

In the history of women’s tennis there is perhaps no other player who produced a higher level of dominance than Serena Williams.

She brought a level of power and aggression to the game combined with elite consistency, which very few players were able to handle.

But there is arguably no better performance to encapsulate these elements than the 2012 Olympics final, when Williams took on Maria Sharapova.

Stubbs has named this as Serena’s best match, which she won for the loss of just one game and claimed singles Olympic gold for the first time.

“The greatest match I ever saw Serena play, and I saw her play a lot of tennis, was the finals of the Olympics in London against Sharapova,” Stubbs said on her self-titled ‘Rennae Stubbs podcast.’

“I was doing the commentary and Maria hit a great serve out wide, 115 or something, and Serena literally turned her shoulders and crushed a forehand down the line at 120 mph or something and where we sit in the booths at Wimbledon is right on court level.

“Sometimes there are just no words. I have never seen anyone play better than that match. It was like the loss she had against Maria entered her body and she was like not today.”

Has Rennae Stubbs coached Serena Williams?

Williams spent the vast majority of her tennis career being coached by her father Richard Williams and they were very successful together.

But ahead of her final tournament, Williams hired Stubbs to join her coaching team. The Australian previously coached the likes of Karolína Plíšková, Sam Stosur and Eugenie Bouchard.

Williams looked to end her career by equalling Margaret Court’s record of 24 majors, and she made a promising start by winning her first two matches.

But she met her match in Ajla Tomljanovi?, who claimed a 7-5, 6-7, 6-1 to defeat Williams, who bid an emotional farewell to professional tennis.
