The Weeknd’s Biggest Smashes Are Surging Globally As His New Single Debuts appeared on www.forbes.com by Hugh McIntyre.
The Weeknd has officially kicked off the latest era of his musical career. The singer-songwriter recently shared new single “Dancing in the Flames,” which fronts his forthcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The tune’s arrival helped reignite interest in some of the superstar’s classics and most familiar singles, and many of them are on the rise.
On the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US—Billboard’s two rankings of the most-consumed songs around the world, with the latter excluding all data from America—The Weeknd fills six spaces. As his latest debuts, many other hits from the Grammy winner are improving their standing.
“Dancing in the Flames” ranks as The Weeknd’s loftiest win on both global rankings, which should come as no surprise. The new single launches at No. 10 on the two tallies, upping his career total of top 10s on both of them once again.
As that just-dropped electro-pop cut enjoys a notable opening, several others favorites from the Canadian powerhouse are climbing. “Save Your Tears” with Ariana Grande ranks as The Weeknd’s next-biggest hit this frame. That duet can be found inside the top 40 once again on the Billboard Global 200 (No. 36) and the top 30 on the Billboard Global Excl. US (No. 26).
Another Grande collaboration, “Die For You,” is also surging. That track pushes five spaces to No. 52 on the global list, and to No. 46 on the ranking that avoids all U.S. listening.
Not far behind comes another solo affair from The Weeknd. “Blinding Lights,” which still stands as one of the most successful songs of all time, pushes to No. 61 on the Billboard Global 200. It nearly re-enters the top 50 on the Billboard Global Excl. US, where it stalls at No. 51.
The Weeknd’s last rising smash is “Starboy,” one of his two massive hits with Daft Punk. That single can also be found inside the upper half of both rosters this week. “Starboy” advances to No. 87 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 68 on the Billboard Global Excl. US this time around.
Only one of The Weeknd‘s tunes that can be found on the two rosters doesn’t manage to improve its position on both of them. “One of the Girls,” which was recorded for his TV show The Idol, and which features both Lily Rose Depp and Jennie of Blackpink, surges three rungs to No. 27 on the Billboard Global Excl. US. Meanwhile, it falls one space on the Billboard Global 200, declining to No. 43.
